Nicole Rall Farmstand: Part 2

Nicole Rall and her daughters at their Farmstand in Milford, Michigan

On a quiet stretch off Dawson Road in Milford, Michigan, Nicole Rall’s roadside farmstand continues to grow—not just in offerings, but in heart. This is her still-unnamed Einkorn stand, where the smell of fresh sourdough hangs in the air, and her three daughters bounce between helping with sales and showing off their latest handmade jewelry.

Nicole answers questions with a quiet mindfulness, the kind that comes from a life rooted in intention. “Well, we’ve been here now almost four years,” she explains, “and we do grow a plethora and an abundance of produce, and I wanted to be able to share some of that.

Built by her husband as a Mother’s Day gift, the little stand started with extra veggies and has since become a rotating display of baked goods and Einkorn creations. “It was just kind of like, all right, am I gonna use it?” Nicole says, smiling at the memory. “And, you know, I've been doing sourdough workshops, but . . . everything has its ebbs and flows and seasons, but . . . I just still wanted to share this particular flour with people because of the health benefits.”

The result is a space that feels more like a tiny outdoor bakery-meets-classroom than a business. “Let’s fill her up,” she says. “Let’s see what I can make and bake and put out there and share.”

Payment is as simple as the philosophy behind it. “Venmo or cash,” Nicole shrugs, gesturing toward a modest tin box on the stand. “There’s a little cash box.” When asked why she trusts an honor system, she pauses thoughtfully, then says, “I think I just... I have a little bit of faith in humanity still. And I would like to—I think if you choose to have faith in humanity, that the faith will show itself.” She adds, “Everybody’s got their own story... if somebody is like ransacking a farmstand, then, you know, maybe they need it.” Out here, trust still counts.
