Nicole Rall Farmstand: Part 3

Nicole Rall and her daughters at the Farmstand, featuring Einkorn flour baked goods among other things…

There’s a feeling that sticks with you at Nicole Rall’s Farmstand off Dawson Rd. Milford, Michigan—one of openness, simplicity, and intention. Nicole, a mother of three, home-schools her daughters and weaves the rhythms of baking, growing, and selling into their daily lessons.

“My sweet girls,” she says, “they inspire me all the time to do and try.” Audrey, Nora, and Amelia help with everything—from mixing dough to setting out handmade jewelry. “They love helping me bake and they love helping me cook and they really are a huge help,” Nicole says. “I love the idea of them learning these skills… people run very successful farmstands all over the country… they support their family in a really beautiful way and their community in a really beautiful way.”

Right now, the stand is stocked with scones, cookies, bagels, loaves, fire cider, granola, and more. The girls take turns each week setting out their handmade jewelry, a detail that makes this stand feel even more personal.

Though the stand is still new, Nicole says the best moments come from her neighbors and friends. And while Nicole’s still learning how to pace herself, she reflects, “To push myself to bake or to try baking new things for sure… it is a time intensive process. Bakers—like people that do this all the time for a living—I give them lots of kudos because it’s a lot.”

So what does she hope people feel when they stop by? “I hope they feel excited and I hope they feel guilt-free, indulging in yummy things. And then I hope ultimately that they’re inspired to make their own stuff at home.”

If you want to support Nicole and her family’s stand, it’s as easy as showing up. “Social media is a very helpful way to spread the word” about when the stand is open. And if you ever catch one of her daughters running inside the house, it’s likely they’re checking on whatever is baking in the oven.
